At Je Mérite, I Deserve, we believe in the power of asking for and receiving help. No matter how strong, independent, or capable you are, everyone deserves support at different stages of their life.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness—it’s an act of strength, courage, and self-compassion.

Today, we want to encourage you to embrace the help you deserve, because no one should walk their journey alone.

"Somehow we've come to equate success with not needing anyone. Many of us are willing to extend a helping hand, but we're very reluctant to reach out for help when we need it ourselves. It's as if we've divided the world into 'those who offer help' and 'those who need help'. The truth is that we are both."

1. Recognize Your Needs

The first step in receiving help is understanding when and where you need it. It’s easy to get caught up in daily tasks and responsibilities, but take a moment to reflect on your life. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Is there a task, emotion, or challenge you’re struggling with? Acknowledging your needs is a key part of self-care and opens the door to receiving the support you deserve.

2. Let Go of Guilt or Shame

Asking for help can sometimes be accompanied by feelings of guilt or shame. You might feel like you should handle everything on your own. However, reaching out for assistance doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re wise enough to know that no one succeeds alone. Let go of any negative emotions tied to asking for help and embrace the idea that you are worthy of support.

3. Surround Yourself with Supportive People

Cultivating a strong support system is essential. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and are willing to help when you need it. Whether it’s family, friends, mentors, or even professionals, having a reliable network is invaluable. Remember, true connection means both giving and receiving support—it’s a balance that helps everyone thrive.

4. Be Specific About Your Needs

When reaching out for help, be clear and specific about what you need. Whether it’s emotional support, practical advice, or assistance with a task, clarity will ensure that the help you receive is meaningful and effective. Don’t hesitate to express exactly how others can support you; it helps foster stronger, more understanding relationships.

5. Offer Help to Others

Just as you deserve help, so do others. Offering assistance when you can creates a positive cycle of support and kindness. Helping others not only strengthens your connections but also reminds you that asking for help is a natural and healthy part of life.

Lastly, our film. The true story of a heroic man, Hunter "Patch" Adams, determined to become a medical doctor because he enjoys helping people. He ventured where no doctor had ventured before, using humour and pathos.
